Meira mineral salt contains sea salt, which is made from seawater by evaporating the water in the sun and purifying the remaining salt. Iodine is added to the salt to maintain sufficient iodine intake. One kilogram of salt contains 25 mg of iodine. Meira mineral salt contains over 50% less sodium chloride than regular salt, and it also contains health-promoting minerals such as potassium and magnesium. Due to its low sodium content, mineral salt is not suitable for pickles or dry-curing fish.
